Indeterminate Forms is a curated collection of short form live performances that engage with technology, both practically as a medium and conceptually as a means of exploring our relationship to it. By bringing together performances from a variety of different backgrounds and contexts Indeterminate Forms provides a platform in which technology acts as a through line to examine live performance as the traditional boundaries of music, dance, theater, and media art collapse when juxtaposed with one another.
This season kick-off event will feature Sarah Rothberg, Fei Liu, Heidi Hörsturz, and BKLYN!ZULU presenting works encompassing live video, sound art, avatars, and more curated by Matt Romein.
The New News
Sarah Rothberg will broadcast The New News from her future home based in virtual reality. Witness how the realities of today's technology could sneak into the future with this inventive new work.
Sarah Rothberg is an artist working in a variety of formats, including: virtual reality, installation, workshops, one-liners, animations, conversations across stalls in the bathrooms, and songs sung quietly into the ears of CEOs. She designs experiences that encourage new ways of thinking around technology and the relationship between systems and the personal.
Build the Love You Deserve
Fei Liu 刘斐 programmed Gabriel2052, her robot boyfriend, to be the ideal DIY love machine. In Build the Love You Deserve, she subverts the submissive fem-bot trope and takes on issues of love in a technological age.
Fei is a New York-based Chinese designer, artist, writer, and DJ exploring digital intimacy and the narrative potential of interfaces. She is an adjunct professor at Parsons MFA Design and Technology, previously a Researcher in Residence at NEW INC, and a Digital Solitude fellow at Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart, Germany.
We Need More Laser!
If you have a technology induced goldfish attention span, Heidi Hörsturz will make sure to provide the overstimulation you need. She'll animate your senses with an artificially constructed multidimensional live performance with lasers!
Heidi is a media artist based in the Netherlands working across audiovisual performance, video, and sound art. Her animations, live shows, and installations combine contemporary art and modern digital trash aesthetics.
Where Brooklyn At!?
In BKLYN!ZULU’s dynamic performance, images of gentrification are looped, stretched, effected and chopped up live to create abstract boom bap compositions serving as audio/visual resistance against a neocolonial force.
BKLYN!ZULU is an experimental audio/visual performing arts collective of filmmakers, photographers, musicians, designers, culinary artists, djs, and vjs based in Brooklyn, New York City. They create time-based art installations and multi-sensory experiences via free association, improvisation, and rhythmic collage techniques.
