”Before I came to CoLab I was losing my inspiration. This really inspired me to get back into making art.“
— Jon, age 17, CoLab Student
CoLab is CultureHub’s free summer program for young artists ages 15–20. Over the course of two weeks, young artists will collaborate with professional artists and technology experts to explore new performing and programming techniques in a fun, engaging module. The group will create an original piece to share with friends, family, and the community at the end of the program.
CoLab 2018 will be held July 9th-20th in our studio in the East Village. Students can apply for one module that will meet daily for three hours throughout the two week program.
BEAT LAB | Baba Israel and Grace Galu
This workshop will introduce participants to the full process of creating, producing, and presenting music. We will work with Ableton Live to create original beats and tracks. We will also develop vocal skills in singing and beatboxing to expand our production and performance possibilities. Whether you are a poet, rapper, emcee, singer, songwriter, music producer, or anything in between, this is the workshop for you!
CODING FOR LIVE PERFORMANCE | Matt Romein
Learn how to make your own software for multimedia performance using MaxMSPJitter, a visual coding language. Participants will generate and remix their own audio and video content using microphones, cameras, cellphones, and more. The module will culminate with a live performance using the tools we've built.
